The Archaeometry Laboratory has collected data on archaeological and geological materials for over thirty years. Currently, the NAA ceramic database contains over 150,000 samples from around the world. Data from about 120,000 of these samples are available for comparative analysis in new studies by any researcher. Some of these data were collected at other laboratories around the world and have conversion factors applied to be comparable to our in-house database.
This map visualizes our public database at the country and state levels using a drill-down feature. As we continue to clean the data, new features will be added.
Many of the datasets are publicly available to download. Check out the MURR Database webpage and Zenodoto search for currently publicly available datasets. Other datasets may be availble upon request. If there is a specific region you are interested in, please contact the lab to inquire about the available data for that region.
The Archaeometry Lab curates an extensive obsidian database as well as other geological materials such as chert and ochre.
If the data is associated with a publication, please reference the original publication. If the data is unpublished please make every effort to contact the original investigator to collaborate on the project. If the data is posted on Zenodo, you may cite the open dataset in various styles. The Zenodo page will create the citation for you in the "Citation" section.
We are continuously working to clean and update our databases. Please contact the lab and we will fix the issue as soon as possible.
